Displacement Calculator

Compute displacement from velocity, acceleration, and time (kinematics).

Displacement Calculator

Compute displacement under constant acceleration using the kinematic equation s = ut + ½at², plus the resulting final velocity.

Inputs explained

  • Initial velocity (m/s) The starting velocity, in metres per second.
  • Acceleration (m/s²) The constant acceleration; use a negative value for deceleration.
  • Time (s) How long the motion lasts, in seconds.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the fields above — each input has a hint describing exactly what to enter
  2. Press Calculate to get your result instantly, right on this page
  3. Copy the result, save the tool to favorites, or share and embed it anywhere

Understanding the result

Example: Starting at 5 m/s and accelerating at 2 m/s² for 4 seconds gives a displacement of 5×4 + ½×2×4² = 36 metres.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need both initial velocity and acceleration to find displacement? The formula s = ut + ½at² has two terms — one for the distance covered at constant initial speed and one for the extra distance from speeding up or slowing down — so both values are needed to get the total displacement.

What if the object is decelerating instead of speeding up? Enter a negative acceleration value; the ½at² term will then subtract from the distance covered at the initial velocity, correctly reducing the total displacement.

Is the Displacement Calculator free to use? Yes — it is completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no usage limits. You can use it as often as you need.

Is my data private? Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — the values you enter are never sent to our servers, stored or shared with anyone.

What information do I need? Just the following: Initial velocity (m/s), Acceleration (m/s²), Time (s). Each field includes a hint explaining exactly what to enter.

Can I use it on my phone? Yes — the tool is fully responsive and works on any device, and the same calculator is available in the EasyWorkCalcs mobile app.
