Long Multiplication Calculator

Multiply multi-digit numbers with step-by-step partial products.

Long Multiplication Calculator

Multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm: one shifted partial product per digit of the multiplier, then add them up.

Inputs explained

  • Multiplicand (first number) The first whole number.
  • Multiplier (second number) The whole number to multiply by — one partial product is shown per digit.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the fields above — each input has a hint describing exactly what to enter
  2. Press Calculate to get your result instantly, right on this page
  3. Copy the result, save the tool to favorites, or share and embed it anywhere

Understanding the result

Example: 234 × 56 = 13,104: the partial products are 234 × 6 = 1,404 and 234 × 50 = 11,700.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the partial products shifted before adding them? Each partial product corresponds to a different place value in the multiplier (ones, tens, etc.), so the tens-digit partial product is shifted one place left before summing, which is why 234 × 50 shows as 11,700 rather than 1,170.

Does this work the same way for numbers with more than two digits? Yes, the method extends to any number of digits — one partial product per digit of the multiplier, each shifted according to its place value, then summed.

Is the Long Multiplication Calculator free to use? Yes — it is completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no usage limits. You can use it as often as you need.

Is my data private? Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — the values you enter are never sent to our servers, stored or shared with anyone.

What information do I need? Just the following: Multiplicand (first number), Multiplier (second number). Each field includes a hint explaining exactly what to enter.

Can I use it on my phone? Yes — the tool is fully responsive and works on any device, and the same calculator is available in the EasyWorkCalcs mobile app.
