Alcohol Unit Calculator
Count standard alcohol units — the UK/EU guideline metric where 1 unit is 10 ml of pure alcohol. Units = volume (ml) × ABV% ÷ 1000. UK guidance advises no more than 14 units per week.
Inputs explained
- Drink volume — Volume of one drink in millilitres (e.g. 500 for a pint-sized can, 175 for a standard wine glass).
- Alcohol strength (ABV) — The percentage alcohol by volume printed on the label.
- Number of drinks — How many of this drink you had.

Frequently asked questions
How is a UK 'unit' different from a US 'standard drink'? A UK unit equals 10 ml of pure alcohol, while a US standard drink is defined as about 14 grams (roughly 17.7 ml) of pure alcohol, so the same drink converts to a different number of units versus standard drinks depending on which country's guideline you use.
Does entering multiple drinks just multiply the single-drink result? Yes, the number of drinks field scales the units calculated for one drink's volume and ABV linearly, so entering 3 drinks of the same size and strength triples the unit count.
