Example: A square pyramid with base side 6 and height 4 has volume 48; a frustum with base 6, top 4, and height 3 has volume 76.

A pyramid comes to a single point at the top, while a frustum is a pyramid with the top sliced off parallel to the base, leaving a smaller flat top face instead of an apex. Selecting frustum adds a top side length field and changes the volume and surface area formulas accordingly.

Does this calculator work for pyramids with a rectangular or triangular base? No, it assumes a square base (and a square top for frustums), using a single side-length input for each. A pyramid with a rectangular or non-square base would need different length and width inputs and is not supported here.
