Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the P/E ratio and the earnings yield shown here? Earnings yield is simply the inverse of P/E (EPS divided by price instead of price divided by EPS), expressed as a percentage — it's useful for directly comparing a stock's earnings return to bond yields or other percentage-based benchmarks.
Why might the P/B ratio be more useful for some stocks than the P/E ratio? P/B compares price to book value per share and is more meaningful for asset-heavy businesses like banks, while P/E can be distorted or undefined for companies with negative or near-zero earnings.
