How is a percentile different from a quartile? Quartiles are just three fixed percentiles — the 25th (Q1), 50th (Q2), and 75th (Q3) — while this calculator lets you request any percentile from 0 to 100, using the same linear interpolation method.

Why might a spreadsheet give a slightly different percentile than this calculator? Different software can use different interpolation conventions (there are several standard percentile methods); this calculator uses the common linear interpolation between sorted data points, which matches most spreadsheet defaults but not every statistical package.
