Frequently asked questions
Why divide watts by 1000 in the energy calculation? Electricity rates are billed per kilowatt-hour, so watts must be converted to kilowatts (divided by 1000) before multiplying by hours to get a cost figure that matches your utility bill's units.
Does this account for standby power when the appliance is off but plugged in? No, the calculation only covers the hours and wattage you enter for active use — phantom or standby draw isn't included unless you factor it into the hours-used figure yourself.
