Time Value of Money Calculator
A classic TVM solver: pick which variable to find — number of periods (N), rate per period (I), present value (PV), payment (PMT), or future value (FV) — and enter the rest. Payments are assumed at the end of each period.
Inputs explained
- Solve for — Which TVM variable to compute. The chosen variable's input is hidden.
- Number of periods — Total compounding periods (months, years, etc. — be consistent with the rate).
- Interest rate per period — The rate per period in percent (e.g. a 12% annual rate compounded monthly is 1 per month).
- Present value — The amount invested or borrowed today.
- Payment per period — The recurring end-of-period payment (0 for a lump sum only).
- Future value — The target or resulting amount at the end of the last period.

Understanding the result
Example: Solving for FV with PV = $1,000, I = 5% per period, N = 10, and PMT = 0 gives $1,628.89.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I have to pick which variable to 'solve for' instead of just entering all five? The time-value-of-money equation links N, I, PV, PMT, and FV together, so if you already know all five they're mathematically fixed by each other; picking one to solve for tells the calculator which unknown to isolate from the other four.
Why does the sign of payment or present value matter? TVM calculations typically use cash-flow sign conventions where money paid out is negative and money received is positive; getting the signs wrong on PV or PMT can flip the result's sign or produce a nonsensical answer.
Is the Time Value of Money Calculator free to use? Yes — it is completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no usage limits. You can use it as often as you need.
Is my data private? Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — the values you enter are never sent to our servers, stored or shared with anyone.
What information do I need? Just the following: Solve for, Number of periods, Interest rate per period, Present value, Payment per period, Future value. Each field includes a hint explaining exactly what to enter.
Can I use it on my phone? Yes — the tool is fully responsive and works on any device, and the same calculator is available in the EasyWorkCalcs mobile app.
