Download/Upload Time Estimator
Estimate how long a file transfer will take. File sizes are measured in bytes but connection speeds in bits per second, so the size is multiplied by 8.
Inputs explained
- File size — The size of the file being transferred. Example: 4.5.
- Size unit — The unit of the file size: MB, GB, or TB (decimal, 1000-based).
- Connection speed — Your download or upload speed. Example: 100.
- Speed unit — The unit of the connection speed: Mbps or Gbps.
How to use it
- Fill in the fields above — each input has a hint describing exactly what to enter

Understanding the result
Example: A 4.5 GB file on a 100 Mbps connection takes 4.5×10⁹ × 8 ÷ 10⁸ = 360 seconds, or 6 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
Why does file size use GB but the connection speed uses Mbps? Storage is conventionally measured in bytes (GB) while network speeds are marketed in bits per second (Mbps), so the calculator multiplies the file size by 8 to convert bytes to bits before dividing by the connection speed.
Will I actually get this exact download time in real life? Usually not — this is a theoretical best case assuming you get the full advertised connection speed with no overhead, while real transfers are slowed by network congestion, protocol overhead, and server-side limits.
Is the Download/Upload Time Estimator free to use? Yes — it is completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no usage limits. You can use it as often as you need.
Is my data private? Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — the values you enter are never sent to our servers, stored or shared with anyone.
What information do I need? Just the following: File size, Size unit, Connection speed, Speed unit. Each field includes a hint explaining exactly what to enter.
Can I use it on my phone? Yes — the tool is fully responsive and works on any device, and the same calculator is available in the EasyWorkCalcs mobile app.
