Why does the wavelength depend on wave speed, not just frequency? Wavelength is distance per cycle, and it's derived from λ = v/f, so the same frequency produces a different wavelength depending on the medium — a 440 Hz sound wave in air (343 m/s) has a much shorter wavelength than the same frequency of light in a vacuum.
