Velocity Calculator
Compute velocity two ways: average velocity from distance over time (v = d / t), or final velocity under constant acceleration (v = u + at). Results are shown in m/s and km/h.
Inputs explained
- Mode — Choose average velocity (distance ÷ time) or final velocity (u + at).
- Distance (m) — Distance travelled, in metres (average mode).
- Time (s) — Elapsed time, in seconds.
- Initial velocity (m/s) — Starting velocity (final-velocity mode).
- Acceleration (m/s²) — Constant acceleration (final-velocity mode).
How to use it

Understanding the result
Example: Covering 100 metres in 20 seconds gives an average velocity of 5 m/s (18 km/h); starting at 5 m/s with 2 m/s² acceleration for 3 seconds gives a final velocity of 11 m/s.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the two calculation modes? The distance/time mode gives average velocity over a trip (v = d/t) with no regard for speeding up or slowing down, while the acceleration mode gives the instantaneous final velocity after a period of constant acceleration (v = u + at).
Why are results shown in both m/s and km/h? m/s is the standard SI unit used in the underlying physics formulas, while km/h is more familiar for everyday speeds like vehicle travel, so both are shown for convenience.
Is the Velocity Calculator free to use? Yes — it is completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no usage limits. You can use it as often as you need.
Is my data private? Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — the values you enter are never sent to our servers, stored or shared with anyone.
What information do I need? Just the following: Mode, Distance (m), Time (s), Initial velocity (m/s), Acceleration (m/s²). Each field includes a hint explaining exactly what to enter.
Can I use it on my phone? Yes — the tool is fully responsive and works on any device, and the same calculator is available in the EasyWorkCalcs mobile app.
