Why does walking pace change the calorie estimate if the step count stays the same? Faster walking raises calorie burn per step because it demands more effort per stride, so the calculator applies a higher kcal-per-step rate (toward the 0.06 end) for a brisk pace and a lower rate (toward 0.04) for a slower pace, even at the same step count.
Why does body weight affect the calorie result? Heavier bodies require more energy to move the same distance, so the per-step calorie rate is scaled by body weight, meaning two people who take the same number of steps at the same pace will burn different amounts of calories if their weights differ.
